• Who is this Sanns and why did Marvin chose that for his company name?

   

  My last name of Schuldiner ("Shool-dee-ner") is not easy for many people to pronounce.  You would be surprised how many variations I've gotten in my life.  My father has 3 brothers and they each pronounce it differently.  So, to start a business venture with a name that is difficult to pronounce would not have been the wisest idea.

   

  Sanns is what my last name should have been.  I've heard a number of stories as to why my great-grandfather gave my grandfather his mother's last name.  One involved keeping the maternal family name going.  Another involved avoiding paying taxes to the Austria-Hungary Empire on the child.  Another was that it was a tradition back in the old country to name the child after the mother.  Sadly, the Sanns name did not survive World War 2.

   

  So, to pay homage to my family, I used the old family name for my business ventures in forming Sanns, LLC.  Plus, it's fairly easy to pronounce and means "to think" in German (hence Rodin's "The Thinker" for my company logo).
